Starbucks staff stated separation was imminent after a similar tweet about the new Refresher difficulties. The drinks lack Starbucks' "base," a syrup used to emulsify blended Frappuccinos.

"Unfortunately, the recipe lacks an emulsifier such as a frap base, so the drink will always separate within a few minutes," a Reddit staffer wrote.

Starbucks responded to complaints with: "This handcrafted drink features layers of Refreshers, real pieces of fruit, strawberries puree, ice and lemonade, and some separation is normal when the beverage is enjoyed."

This is the latest Starbucks item to cause controversy this year. Customers reported that the chain's olive oil-infused coffees caused gastrointestinal troubles. When Starbucks dropped their raspberry syrup in March, customers were furious.
