McDonald's hasn't said much about what the new idea is going to be. In 2023's Q2 results call, the president and CEO said that the spinoff restaurant is in the works and will start testing in 2024.

The name, which is spelled "Cosmics," comes from an alien mascot for McDonald's that had the same name and was used in ads more than 30 years ago.
