In-N-Out Burger Adds New Controversial Customer Service Policy

While some companies tried to outlaw mask-wearing, most people—regardless of political affiliation—supported it. Many loved having the option to wear a mask if they were in a crowded environment or thought they could be sick.

On July 14, In-N-Out's media contact page ignored a mask policy comment request. Tran tweeted that the policy was about customer service.

Masks are prohibited without a "valid medical note." Disobeyers may be fired. Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, and Utah employees receive the In-N-Out memo. California and Oregon, the company's other states, are missing.

"Layered prevention strategies -- such as remaining up to date on vaccines and wearing masks -- can help prevent serious illness and reduce the potential for strain on the medical system," the federal agency says on its website.

The Florida Department of Health suggests food service workers wear masks for safety.

"Use safety gear such as face masks, gloves, aprons, footwear coverings, or goggles, if needed," the FDA said on a website headed "Best Practices for Food Service Workers."
